Ethical Guidelines for the Journal “Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedeniy. Geologiya i Razvedka” ("Proceedings of Higher Schools. Geology and Exploration")
In accordance and compliance with the ethical rules and regulations adopted by the leading international scientific publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, and others, the Editorial Board of “Geologiya i Razvedka” has established the Ethical Guidelines that shall be mandatorily observed by all participants of the process of publication of scientific articles – Authors, Reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, Lead Editors, and Publisher.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
1.1. When submitting an article for review by the Editorial Board, Author confirms that the submitted article is not under review in any another journal and that it has not been published before.
1.2. Author shall be responsible for the content of the article. The papers should present entirely original scientific data. In case of citations from other researchers, appropriate references should be provided. Results discussed in the article should meet the criterion of reproducibility by other researchers. All methods of data processing, as well as the logic of their interpretation should be completely transparent.
1.3. Author shall be responsible for conscious or unconscious plagiarism. Unauthorized reproduction of any elements of articles (texts, graphics, source data, etc.) is absolutely unacceptable. If the authors have used the work and/or words of others, such elements should be appropriately cited/quoted and accompanied by a corresponding reference.
1.4. Author shall be responsible for provision of information about sources of financial support for the project reported in the proposed article and names of persons who facilitated the research.
1.5. Information obtained privately, i.e. in correspondence, conversation or discussion with third parties, or obtained in the course of confidential services, may be used or reported only if explicit permission from the source is available in writing.
1.6. Should Author find a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal’s Editor or Publisher and cooperate with the Editor to retract or correct the published paper. If the Editor or Publisher is advised by a third party that a published work contains a significant error and informs Author about such a lapse, it is the obligation of the author to promptly respond with a correct version or provide evidence to the Editor of the correctness of data in his/her paper.
1.7. Author may initiate publication of his/her article, which has been already published in the native language, in translation. Such cases shall be subject to special consideration by the Editorial Board, pending mandatory performance of ethical duties by all the aprties involved.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
2.1. The Editorial Board of “Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedeniy. Geologiya i Razvedka” accepts for review the articles that has not been published yet, present original research results or detailed reviews of subjects pertaining to the research disciplines covered by the journal. If conclusions/ results presented in the article under review repeat by more than 50% those in the already published paper, Editors of “Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedeniy. Geologiya i Razvedka” reserve the right not to accept such an article for publication.
2.2. Editors are responsible for making decisions regarding articles submitted for review. Scientific value of the article, its importance for scientific progress and the quality of its presentation shall be the key basis for decision making on acceptance/nonacceptance of the article for publication.
2.3. Editors and members of the Editorial board have no right to disclose information about any papers received for review to anybody, except for a few persons who are directly related to the article and its processing for publication.
2.4. While reviewing the articles, Editors get familiarized in details of the original data contained in the submitted papers. Under any circumstances they shall not be allowed to use this information in any of their own research projects or for any personal purposes. Using such information shall be permitted only after the official publication of the article and observation of the rules of correct citation in accordance with generally accepted standards.
2.5. Under any circumstances Editors shall not impose authors to cite any papers published in “Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedeniy” including the Journal “Geologiya i Razvedka” as to take attempts at facilitating higher scientometric indicators of the journal.
2.6. Editors shall ensure proper control and accuracy of citations in articles approved for publication.
2.7. Editors shall evaluate scientific papers for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
3.1. Reviewing of articles in “Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedeniy. Geologiya i Razvedka” is anonymous, and the authors do not know who reviewed their paper. If desired, Reviewer may consent in writing to disclose his/her name to Author.
3.2. Reviewers shall not disclose to unauthorized persons information about articles submitted for review.
3.3. Before the article is published, under any circumstances Reviewers do not have the right to use in their own research or for other personal purposes the information to which they has access in the process of reviewing.
3.4. Should Reviewer make a positive conclusion and yet have critical comments to the paper under review, he/she may publish the comments as agreed with the Editorial Board. In such cases, the journal can publish Author’ response to Reviewer.
3.5. Reviewers should conduct scientific reviews of the papers within the timeline advised by the Editorial Board (one month). If Reviewer fails to complete the review within the specified period, he/she should immediately inform the Editorial Office.
3.6. In the course of reviewing the papers, Reviewers shall strive for maximum objectivity. The only criterion when assessing the article is its scientific significance. Any decisions based on personal preferences of Reviewers are not permitted. If there is a conflict of interests or there may be a conflict in any form between Reviewer and Author, Reviewer shall be obliged to immediately inform Editor and abandon the review.
4. Conflict of interest
All the interested parties shall do their best to avoid any conflicts of interests in any form at all the stages of preparation of papers for publication. Should a conflict of interests in any form take place, the person who first noted such a conflict should immediately inform Editor about it. The same applies to any violations of generally accepted ethical rules and standards.
