School of Hydrogeology

School of Hydrogeology

The students of this School are trained in surveying and exploration of ground waters and engineering-geological survey. They are allowed to study scientific bases of hydrosphere monitoring, the methods of studying and forecasting of the changes of natural environment in big cities districts, mining and industrial enterprises (territories impounding, ground water pollution, etc.), the methods of engineering geological diagnostics of the architecture monuments. The graduates are experts in surveying and exploration of ground-water, the rational use of ground-water , the ecological and hydro geological mapping, etc.

The School trains specialists (Engineer’s degree) in Applied Geology with the specialization in Prospecting and exploration of ground waters and engineering-geological survey.

The School of Hydrogeology faculty was established in 1930.

The scientific directions are:

  • Hydrogeochemistry
  • Soil mechanics
  • Geocryology
  • Study of mineral water
  • Methods of engineering-geological researches
  • Hydrogeological modeling

There are also worked out the scientific bases of hydrosphere monitoring, the methods of studying and forecasting the changes of natural environment in big cities districts, mining and industrial enterprises (territories impounding, ground water pollution, etc.), the methods of engineering-geological diagnostics of the architecture monuments and the recommendations of their protection, etc.

Department of Hydrogeology

The main direction of the scientific researches is hydrogeology, which includes the prospecting and the exploration of ground waters, the rational use of ground water intake, the ecological and hydrogeological mapping, the diagnostics and forecasting of ecologically dangerous processes and phenomena, the ground water monitoring, etc.

Department of Engineering Geology

The Department of Engineering Geology trains specialists in Engineering-geological survey by architecture monuments restoration and Ecological hydrogeology and engineering geology.

The main scientific directions in department’s work are:

The theory of engineering geology and methodology of engineering-geological researches. The founder and the leader of this scientific direction is the Honoured scientist of Russian Federation, professor G. Bondarick. The substantial part of this direction is the study of the general theory of the weathering process and the crust weathering of rocks of different continents of the globe (scientific adviser: professor L. Yarg); and also the theoretical and methodological bases of complex and quantitative analysis of information in engineering geology (scientific adviser professor Vladimir Pendin (School dean)).

The study of the historical natural technical systems “Monument vs. geological environment”. The founder and the leader of this scientific direction is the Honoured artist of Russian Federation, professor E. Pashkin.

The engineering-geological researches in designing, construction and exploitation of the objects of hydrocarbon transportation. The founder of this scientific direction is professor Vladimir Pendin.

At the present time the graduating students of MGRI-RSGPU , who got higher education on the speciality “Prospecting and exploration of ground water and engineering-geological researches”, are in great demand at the labour-market.

The Hydrogeological department constantly gets applications from different product and scientific organizations for their provision with engineers-geologists and hydrogeologists. This requirement is connected with enormous construction scales in Moscow and other big cities in Russia. And as it is known no one big construction can be built without carrying out the detailed engineering-geological researches.
